Lihue, Kauai: Island Helicopter Kauai, Inc., based on the island of Kauai, is offering a brand new, exclusive Kauai experience. For the first time, visitors can now land at Manawaiopuna Falls, the waterfalls made famous in Steven Spielberg’s block buster movie, “Jurassic Park” during a full island sightseeing helicopter tour. “Manawaiopuna Falls is a spectacular setting, it is Kauai’s gem. It’s amazing to feel the power of nature, like Niagara Falls in the wild”, says Curt Lofstedt, pilot and owner of Island Helicopters.
This unique landing is deep in a privately owned valley, typically inaccessible to the public, near the base of the nearly 400-foot waterfall. With its exclusive approval to land from the landowner, and State and County permits, Island Helicopters offers this elite ninety-minute tour called the “Manawaiopuna Falls Landing Tour”. This experience includes a complete circle island tour of Kauai’s extraordinary scenery, plus the landing near the Falls. Once at the Falls, passengers take a short, guided walk to the Falls for spectacular photos and an explanation of the flora, fauna, historical and geological attributes of the area.
Island Helicopters is the only tour operator on Kauai and in the State of Hawaii authorized to provide this awesome Kauai experience. Reservations for this tour are a must. The tour operates five days a week, weather permitting, and flights are limited daily. Tours to Manawaiopuna Falls officially began on May 23, 2009.
Island Helicopters Kauai, Inc. was founded in 1980 by husband and wife team Curt and Bonnie Lofstedt. Curt and Bonnie both manage the company along with their eighteen employees. Island Helicopters provides helicopter tours and charter operations for both visitors and commercial enterprises. The company remains one of the few air tour operators owned and operated by an island-based family. Curt is the only owner/pilot operator flying helicopters out of the Lihue Airport. The oldest air tour operator based at the Lihue Airport, Island Helicopters operates two A-Star AS350B2 helicopters, one being the newest A-Star in Hawaii.
